Mature Safety Culture

IOT’s HSSE policy emphasizes on behavior-based safety to continually improve our safety culture. The positive behavior is awarded and the negative behavior is analyzed through Oiltanking’s “Just Culture” guidelines.

Engaging Employees

IOT firmly believes that all its employees and workers arrive home safely at the end of the day. Employees are focused on achieving a more mature interdependent safety culture where they are responsible and supported to self-manage decisions and actions that have HSSE consequences. The employees and the workers work through a buddy system, thus taking care of each other and continuously correcting the unsafe actions of his or her buddy.

The employees regularly and proactively record their observations of safe and unsafe work practices. This has resulted in dramatic rise in the number of behavioral observations per employee and, in particular, observation of safe work practices they have made. IOT has a “Stop Work” policy in place whereby the workers have a right to stop any work which they feel in unsafe and dangerous.
